Flow Art

Description

In this 3 session class you will learn many ways to create with flow art!

As an introduction to Flow Art painting, on the first night, class participants will create an 8x10 canvas using the “Flip Cup” technique.  Using water based acrylics and lubricants, you will learn to mix your paints to an ideal consistency to “flow” on your canvas, which additives are required for a perfect flow, the ideal consistency/density,  how to layer, and then finally how to flip a “Dirty Cup Pour”.  Paint will not be applied with traditional paintbrushes… but will be poured!  A small propane torch will be used to coax “cells” to magically bubble to the surface.

Your painting will require at least 48 hours to dry in a level position. Flow artists will also learn what is necessary to clean your beautiful dry canvas and then some options for finishes, such as varnishes or resin.

In the second class you will learn the Flip and Drag Technique - This class will build upon the fluid dynamics principles explored in the previous introductory Flow Art class. The method of applying the layers of perfect densities of acrylics in the pouring cup will be dragged across a 10x14 prepared wet canvas.

The last class will be the Swipe Technique - A “Swipe” technique will magically spread your joyous colors across a background color of choice on an 8x10 canvas.

Please dress for mess!  Open to all skill levels.
