Ceramics

All Clay, All Morning
This one day event will inspire and motivate you in your pottery endeavors whether you are early in your clay journey or a seasoned veteran. Marshall Turner will demonstrate some of her glazing techniques and give us lots of great info!
We are paying Marshall for her expertise, so there is a fee. Studio members $10. Non-members $20. No materials or firing included. Participants may purchase clay onsite, and non-members may pay for firing.

You can supplement the glazes your pottery class provides by ordering your own! There are many ceramic suppliers who offer a large number of commercially made glazes in The Bay School’s firing range (cone 5/cone6); but the tile samples that they post online simply cannot do justice to the variety of effects that one glaze can produce. I have tested a good many of them, and will bring an assortment of test tile samples and pots to show, which can help you begin to make your own choices. I’ll discuss and show examples of how the same glaze can look quite different under varying circumstances.

You will be given a certain amount of printed and visual material in a form you can keep, and add to later if you wish. I will demonstrate a couple of glaze application techniques also, to the extent that time permits. Please bring a notebook for note-taking. See you there!

Design Your Wheel Class

This class will consist of 2-hour wheel sessions, with the students determining the dates, times, and frequency based on their own needs.  The availability of the studio and/or the instructor could be a limiting factor and will need to be considered for each class.  Both beginners and continuing students are welcome to design their own class.  Minimum class size is 3 students, so bring a friend and we may be able to help you find a third person if necessary.  If you have wanted to learn to use the pottery wheel, or have needed some help with a throwing problem but haven’t been able to fit in the regular classes, this is your opportunity!  Each 2-hour session is $25 per person.  Contact the Bay School to schedule your class!

Techniques with Art Clay Silver Overlay Paste on Ceramics

This introductory class is an adventure in working with Art Clay Silver Overlay Paste.  Art Clay Silver products are pure fine silver (.999) mixed with water and an organic binder.  It is easy to work with simple tools.

The techniques covered in this class include how to use Art Clay Silver Overlay Paste to decorate glazed and fired ceramic forms.  On the first day of class students will learn to use overlay paste on a ceramic glazed bead provided by the instructor and students may bring their own fired and glazed, ceramic piece to decorate.  The work will be kiln fired in a ceramic kiln and cooled down overnight.  On day two, we will unload the kiln and learn how to enhance the silver designs with patinas and/or polishing.
